Why this book

Bogle founded Vanguard and launched the first index fund available to individual investors in 1976, at the time widely dismissed by the rest of the industry. This book is his own plain-language case for why that idea — simply owning the whole market at minimal cost — isn't a compromise or a lesser strategy, but the direct, provable consequence of taking a few pieces of honest arithmetic seriously.

This course ties directly into this site's own ETF track: the cost-compounding arithmetic in Chapter 6 is the same mechanism behind the TER lesson taught there, and the closing chapter deliberately connects Bogle's own investing-versus-speculation distinction back to Graham's, the very first course in this Book Club.
