Why this book

Every trading book already in this Book Club (Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, Trading in the Zone, Market Wizards) treats chart reading as background the reader is assumed to already have some feel for. This is the book that actually teaches the mechanics of chart reading itself — what a head-and-shoulders pattern is and why it works, what a moving-average crossover is actually measuring, how volume confirms or contradicts a price move — from the ground up.

This course covers the book in five parts: the core philosophy technical analysis rests on, trend and support/resistance identification, the major reversal and continuation chart patterns, volume and moving averages as confirming tools, and momentum oscillators together with a closing chapter on combining tools into an actual risk-managed process — deliberately ending, like this Book Club's other trading courses, on discipline rather than pattern-spotting alone.
