by Mark Douglas

Published in 1990 and still the most widely cited book on trading psychology — the argument that a winning system means nothing without the mindset to actually execute it.

Why this book

Every other course in this Book Club, and most of the Technical Analysis track elsewhere on this site, is about recognizing a setup. This book is about the specific, well-documented gap between recognizing a setup and actually being able to act on it consistently — the reason two traders using the identical system can produce completely different results.

It's the direct psychological complement to the Risk Management and When to Sell lessons on the Technical Analysis track: those cover what a disciplined exit and position size should look like on paper; this book is about why traders who know exactly what they should do often still don't do it, and what actually has to change for that to stop happening.
